Tackle, Equipment and Methods
The lake’s primary species is Catfish, so tackle must be suitable for safely landing and caring for large fish.
Catfish may be caught unintentionally while fishing for Carp, so all gear must meet the following minimum requirements to reduce stress and injury:
1. Rods must be minimum 3.5lb test curve (4lb T/C preferred if targeting Catfish); all other equipment must be suitable for large predators.
2. Line strength must be minimum 25lb mono/fluorocarbon or 80lb braid. Preferred: 30lb mono/fluorocarbon or 100lb braid.
3. Hooks: Micro-barbed or barbless only. Circle hooks must be barbless.
4. Live baiting is allowed. Only fish caught at the fishery may be used. A 4th rod may be used for catching livebait, if appropriate licences held.
5. Use a large landing net (minimum 50”).
6. Use a large unhooking mat cradle to protect the fish.
7. Do not retain fish. Take photos quickly and return fish promptly. Never stand while holding a fish.
8. Bait boats may be used sensibly, respecting swim boundaries.
9. Use strong, long-reach forceps/pliers for hook removal.
10. All anglers must carry and use Carp/Cat Care kits on hook holds and any other affected areas.
11. Use abrasion-resistant hook links to prevent damage from catfish pads.
12. Leaders are required (no lead core). With at least 1m of leader or tubing (not applicable to livebait rigs).
13. Wire traces are not permitted.
14. Treble hooks are not permitted.
